November 10, 2020 - Papa John's Trophy Group A

Brown hit his second hat-trick in the space of seven days when he hit an impressive three goals, against Blues.

The former Cambridge United forward headed in Kwame Poku's deep cross from close range and scored again in the 38th minute when he coolly lifted the ball past the advancing keeper and into the net, after Harry Pell’s pass had beaten the visitors’ offside trap.

Brown wrapped up his personal milestone from the spot just before the hour, after Josh Bohui had been fouled in the area by Shaun Hobson.

2 JAMIE CURETON

April 6, 2007 - Championship

CURETON'S Good Friday hat-trick at Roots Hall will live long in the memory of Colchester United fans - especially those who were there on a humid afternoon.

The striker scored after less than a minute to stun the majority of an Easter crowd of more than 10,000.

Cureton neatly turned into the net in the opening seconds, after a mistake by former U’s loanee Efe Sodje.

And things got even better for the visitors and their supporters when Cureton fired into the bottom corner from long range, just after the hour mark.

The prolific striker then wrapped up his hat-trick – and Colchester’s victory – with 11 minutes remaining, clipping the ball past Shrimpers’ keeper Daryl Flahavan.

YOUNGSTER Groves hit a superb first-half hat-trick to help Colchester United to a comprehensive win over their Essex neighbours, at Layer Road.

Groves gave the U's a 12th minute lead and after Tony Adcock had quickly doubled it, Groves went on to complete his hat-trick in rapid style.

He went onto score twice in the space of a minute before half-time, to put Colchester 4-0 up by half-time.

Paul Clark grabbed a consolation goal for Southend just after the break but the U's were worthy winners on a special night for Groves.

Colchester had led at half-time in the league clash at Roots Hall, thanks to Keith Bowen's opener.

But Groves took over in the second half to take away with the match ball.

He scored just after the break and then shortly after the hour mark to give Colchester a 3-0 lead before goals from John Gymer and Roy McDonough got Southend back into the game,

However, Groves netted again with five minutes to go to seal his side's win and complete his hat-trick.

5 TONY ADCOCK

August 25, 1984 - division four

Adcock showed why he is Colchester's all-time leading goalscorer when he bagged a brilliant hat-trick against Southend United, at Layer Road.

Adcock hit a prolific 149 goals for the U’s during two separate spells at Layer Road and gave his side the lead, in the Essex derby.

Trevor Whymark and Steve Phillips turned things around briefly for Southend, before Adcock struck twice in the space of 12 minutes before the break to complete a hat-trick and put the hosts in control.

He walked off with the match ball but not the win, after Brian Ferguson rescued a point for Southend with a late equaliser.
