COLCHESTER United suffered a demoralising FA Cup exit at the hands of non-league Marine.
The U's were beaten 5-3 on penalties by their Northern Premier League Division One North West opponents, after the first-round tie had finished 1-1 after extra-time at the JobServe Community Stadium.
It was a hugely disappointing outcome for Colchester, who have now lost in the first round of the FA Cup for the last five seasons.
Here are the Gazette ratings, following an embarrassing cup exit for the U's.
DEAN GERKEN 5
U's keeper made impressive stops to deny Kengni and Touray in normal time
MILES WELCH-HAYES 4
Was taken off on the hour mark and replaced by Smith as Colchester chased an equaliser
TOM EASTMAN 4
U's stalwart looked more effective in a right-sided role when U's switched to three at the back
OMAR SOWUNMI 4
Had a real tussle with Marine captain Cummins on his return to the starting line-up
COHEN BRAMALL 4
U's left-back did not get near his normally high standards but did go close with a header that clipped a post
NOAH CHILVERS 4
Played his part in Pell's equaliser when his long-range shot was only parried by the Marine keeper
HARRY PELL 5
U's man of the match. The U's skipper's equaliser was one of the only bright spots on what was otherwise a miserable day for the U's
COURTNEY SENIOR 4
Showed flashes of his skill and trickery but little more than that on what was a real off day for the U's
KWAME POKU 4
U's youngster showed some good approach play at times but had little end product
CALLUM HARRIOTT 4
U's winger limped off with a hamstring injury shortly before Marine took the lead
JEVANI BROWN 4
Missed a decent chance to win it deep into extra-time and was generally well marshalled by the Marine defence but received little service
SUBSTITUTES
JOSH BOHUI 4 (for Harriott, 18)
Was denied by keeper Passant in the build-up to Pell's equaliser and also in extra-time before missing in the shoot-out
TOMMY SMITH 5 (for Welch-Hayes, 61)
Brought a degree of calmness and authority to the U's side after entering the fray on the hour mark
MICHAEL FOLIVI 4 (for Poku, 81)
Was unlucky not to win it for Colchester in extra-time when his header was cleared off the line
SUBSTITUTES (NOT USED): Marshall-Miranda, Scarlett, Cowan-Hall, George.
