MALDON and Tiptree manager Wayne Brown says he would love to embark on another run in the FA Cup, this season.

The Jammers enjoyed a memorable time in last season's competition, beating League Two side Leyton Orient on their way to reaching the second round proper.

Maldon's run in the FA Cup last season complemented their superb form in Isthmian League division north.

And ahead of his side's trip to play Isthmian League south central division outfit Hertford Town in the preliminary round of this season's tournament, boss Brown love a similar scenario again.

He said: "It would be great to have another run in the competition.

"Everyone wants to win a few games in the FA Cup and see how far they can get.

"It's great for the lads who do want to go and pit their wits against better teams.

"I think we had seven games in the competition, last year and the majority were against teams from a higher division.

"So the lads want to test themselves against better players and better teams and that competition gives you the chance to do so, if you're successful."

Brown will have a familiar face in the opposite technical area, on Saturday.

Hertford's boss is Ben Herd, who was one of Brown's team-mates during his time at Watford.

"I phoned him up a few weeks back now to arrange a pre-season fixture," said the Jammers boss.

"We were meant to play them the week before last but we had to cancel that one after the draw came out of the hat, which was unfortunate.

"They'll want to do it the right way and they'll want to play.

"It should be a good football game; that's what I'm hoping for."

Maldon are gearing up for the big kick-off in division north, with a trip to play Soham Town Rangers kicking things off on September 19.

However, boss Brown insists all of their focus is currently on the Hertford game.

"The Hertford game is the most important game of the season for us because it's the next one.

"Once we've got Hertford out of the way, win, lose or draw, the most important game becomes the Soham game because it's the next one.

"That's one of the reasons why I think we had our successes last year, because the lads didn't get too far ahead of themselves.

"They were always concentrating on the next game in hand.

"I think that was evident last year.

"We played Leyton Orient away, got a fantastic 2-1 win away from home and then we had an FA Trophy game on the Tuesday.

"We found ourselves 3-0 down after about 20 minutes and we ended up winning the game 4-3 against Folkestone Invicta, who were top of the league above us.

"That group of players had a really strong mentality and a real willingness to win football matches.

"But we approach one game at a time and we try and do the best that we can in that game coming up."
