A CRUNCH meeting in which Colchester United will hope to receive more clarity on their play-off participation will now take place next Tuesday.

The EFL have tonight announced that the extraordinary general meeting of their 71 clubs will now take place on June 9 - 24 hours later than initially planned.

The meeting will see clubs consider a number of different proposals from both clubs and the EFL board.

The statement issued on Wednesday evening read: 'The EFL Board met today and considered a number of proposals submitted by EFL Clubs in respect of proposed amendments to EFL Regulations in order to determine what will happen in the event the 2019/20 season is curtailed in any EFL Division.

'This now brings an end to a comprehensive consultation phase and Clubs have today received formal notice of the meeting which will now take place on Tuesday 9 June 2020.

'At that meeting Clubs will consider a number of different proposals from both Clubs and the Board of the EFL.'

EFL clubs were asked to submit proposals for alternative ideas on how the season should finish.

Clubs in the fourth tier have indicated a wish to curtail the season but without relegation, while in League One clubs are undecided on how to proceed.

The EFL framework includes promotion and relegation, the retention of the four-team play-offs and the deciding of the final league table on an unweighted points-per-game basis.

League Two clubs agreed last month to end the season, with three teams going up automatically and one via the play-offs.

That would mean the U's, who are sixth in the table, taking on Exeter City, who dropped to fifth after the points-per-game format was enforced.

However, there is still differing opinion among League One clubs.
