COLCHESTER United could come up against one of their former midfielders tomorrow.

The U's host Plymouth Argyle in a top-six clash, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

And within the Pilgrims' ranks is versatile midfielder Joe Edwards, who spent one season at Colchester.

The 29-year-old played for the U's in the 2015-16 season, when they were eventually relegated from League One.

In total, Edwards played 45 times for Colchester after joining them from Yeovil Town, first under Tony Humes and then Kevin Keen.

He scored two goals for the U's, in that campaign.

Edwards impressed both in a central midfield and full-back role for Colchester, in what was otherwise a disappointing season for the club.

Edwards was one of Colchester's most consistent players that season, earning himself the Players' Player of the Year award at the club's End of Season dinner.

But he had made it clear at the end of that season that he wanted to pursue his options and secured a move to Walsall.

Edwards spent three years at the Bescot Stadium before leaving the Saddlers to join Plymouth, last summer.

He played against the U's in Plymouth's 1-0 win over his former club at Home Park, last August.

In total, he has made 34 appearances for the Pilgrims in the current campaign and will be hoping to make their starting line-up for his return to his former club, having been a second-half substitute for their 1-0 win over Newport County, last weekend.

If he does play, Edwards could face his former Colchester team-mate Callum Harriott, who was on loan at the U's in the 2015-16 season.

“I look forward to that," said Harriott.

“Joe was a nice chap but he’s not my nice chap any more as I’m playing against him!".
