AN inspired goalkeeping display by Ted Collins earned Colchester United's under-18s to a point against QPR, writes BRIAN WALLER.

Collins pulled off a string of good saves to help the U's to a 0-0 draw against Rangers in their first home league match since early November.

Donell Thomas lifted a shot over the bar early on for Colchester while at the other end, Collins saved from Chimaecih Eze and then denied Dillon Da Silva soon after.

Collins then pushed Mason McLean's free-kick around the post and Rangers then had a strong penalty appeal rejected after Frankie Terry's challenge in the area.

Collins made a superb save to tip an effort over the bar, before a marauding run into the box by right back Jude-Boyd ended with the U's keeper again forced into the save.

An effort from one of Colchester's three trialists on show then flew wide of the post after good play by Sam Cornish, as the sides went in goal-less at the break.

With the wind in their favour, the U’s began to create more in the second half.

After some neat build-up play, Andre Hasanally's swerving attempt was well held by keeper Murphy Mahoney.

Mahoney made saves from two of the U's trialists while a tumble in the box by Eze saw QPR penalty appeals fall on deaf ears.

Probably provoked by the non penalty, Junior Paiva was booked for his foul on Hasanally who was making a good run towards the goal.

Sayer's curled effort from 25 yards out flew just over the bar but at the other end, Collins had to be at his best to scramble and stretch across to claw a well-struck shot around the right hand post.

In the end though, neither team was able to make the breakthrough as the points were shared.
