COLCHESTER United's players are getting behind a campaign for shirt donations in memory of Jordan Sinnott.

The U's posted a picture of them holding up a jersey displaying the name of the 25-year-old Matlock Town player, who tragically died last week after a night out.

Colchester are among numerous players and clubs up and down the country who are backing the 'Shirts for Jordan' campaign launched by Cardiff City player Danny Ward, who was best friends with Mr Sinnott.

Along with Mr Sinnott's family, Ward is hoping to collect jerseys from every professional team in England and Scotland with "Sinnott25" on them.

They are also looking for shirts from semi-professional and amateur clubs, as part of their quest.

Shirts are being sent to the Cardiff City Stadium with the intention of creating a tribute at his funeral, before donating the shirts to charity where youngsters will be able to play in a shirt bearing Mr Sinnott's name.

Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, Arsenal and France striker Alexandre Lacazette and Liverpool and England star Jordan Henderson are among the football names who have also shown their support, on social media.

U's striker Theo Robinson posted the picture on social media of the Colchester players holding the shirt on social media, writing: #jordansinnott #RIP go and support
