Maldon & Tiptree turned a fantastic five into a super six as their perfect start to the BetVictor Isthmian League division north season continued.
The Jammers had won all of their opening five games heading into a home fixture against Essex rivals Canvey Island and made sure that run continued in emphatic style as they won 5-0.
An early goal from Jerome Slew put Maldon ahead at the break, but it took just two minutes for him to double that after the break.
Charlee Hughes then made it 3-0 on 51 minutes and Slew completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot on 63 minutes, before Danny Parish wrapped up a good night for the Jammers with a fifth goal in the 65th minute.
The win kept Maldon clear at the summit and it was also a good night for Heybridge Swifts as they moved into the play-off spots with a 3-1 win at Hullbridge Sports.
Swifts took the lead in the 28th minute with a goal from Jayden Randell and they held on to their slender lead at the break before pulling away with a 47th minute strike from Emmanuel Osei-Owusu and one on 69 minutes from Alex Teniola.
Hullbridge’s Yemi Ogunfunmilade did find the target with ten minutes to go but it was only a consolation strike for the hosts.
Elsewhere, Coggeshall Town dropped a place to third as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Felixstowe and Walton United and Witham Town were another side who ended the night with a single point.
Witham had to come from behind against Romford, with George Bugg levelling for them in the second half at the Simarco Stadium.
