JOHN McGreal will leave it later to decide on his Colchester United starting line-up for their game at Forest Green Rovers tomorrow.

The U’s head coach is pleased with the way his squad have trained, this week.

And the return of Luke Gambin and Brandon Comley from international duty has increased his selection options, ahead of the trip to the New Lawn.

McGreal was also happy with the game time that the likes of Omar Sowunmi, Cohen Bramall and Noah Chilvers got under their belt for the under-23s in their match against Crewe Alexandra.

And as Colchester strive to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches, boss McGreal admits he has plenty to ponder.

He said: “I’ll leave it a little bit later than normal because of how the week has gone.

“It’s been a really productive week on the training pitch and there’s a lot of food for thought.

“We have good options in good areas and the boys are up in their minutes.

“It gives us other options on the pitch - boys want opportunities to play and when they get those opportunities, they need to execute it.

“That’s where we want to get to – we want that competitive edge that we’ve had throughout the three years I’ve been here and you could definitely see that in training this week.

“Everyone’s training to a good level including the boys who have been away, who have got good minutes away from the building.

“It’s nice to get a few bodies back which is good.

“A couple of the boys went on international duty so it was nice to get them involved again and there was an under-23 game on Monday, where we tried to get more minutes into the likes of Cohen Bramall and Omar Sowunmi.

“It’s been good to get the minutes into the boys who have been on the peripheral.

“It was a bit of a free week that we’ve had but then we go again for another month of Saturday-Tuesday games.

“We needed a lot of the boys up to speed and that was the main crux of the week, along with working on that end product.

“You want those boys fit and knocking on your door, ready to play.

“If they are given an opportunity and they don’t take it, then it’s only down to themselves.”
