COLCHESTER United maintained their winning streak in pre-season with a 3-0 win at Welsh Premier League side Cefn Druids.

Goals from Andre Hasanally, Omar Sowunmi and Luke Norris sealed John McGreal’s side victory, in their latest friendly encounter played out on a 4G surface.

The game marked the Colchester return of goalkeeper Dean Gerken, whose arrival had been confirmed by the club on the morning of the match.

The former Ipswich Town keeper, who has joined the U’s on a free transfer after parting company with Ipswich Town at the end of last season, played the first 45 minutes before being replaced by Ethan Ross at half-time.

Gerken looked very commanding in and around his six-yard box in the first half and was called upon on a few occasions.

But he was not over-worked and was well protected by the U’s defence and particularly Tom Eastman, who put in a strong first-half display at centre-back.

Colchester went in at half-time ahead thanks to a goal from Andre Hasanally, who scored from close-range following a cross from recent signing Paris Cowan-Hall.

Cowan-Hall was the only player to stay on for the U’s in the second half.

And it was the former Wycombe Wanderers attacker who helped create the second Colchester goal, with his cross headed in at the back post by fellow summer signing Sowunmi.

The U’s wrapped up their win when Norris nodded in after a cross from summer signing Michael Fernandes from just outside the box.

Colchester could have had more than the two goals they scored in the second half, having created a number of chances after the break.

It was another productive friendly performance for the U’s, whose next friendly is at Wealdstone next Tuesday night.
