COLCHESTER United have signed the ‘hottest property in League Two’ in Jevani Brown.

That’s the view of U’s head coach John McGreal, who says their new attacker will bring the X Factor to the JobServe Community Stadium.

Brown has bolstered Colchester’s attacking options after joining them for an undisclosed fee from Cambridge United.

The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the U’s and is likely to play in the number ten role vacated following Sammie Szmodics’ departure to Bristol City.

McGreal said: “I think we feel that we have the hottest property in division two in Jevani.

“To come into that ten role as such with the goals that he scores and assists he brings to the team - I think it was 20-odd goals in total last season for Cambridge who didn’t do overly well - it shows you what type of season he had himself.

“We’re absolutely delighted with that one, because he brings the X Factor.

“Having watched him over the last couple of years and from people we’ve spoken to, we all think he’s the hottest property in division two and we’ve been able to grab him.

“There’s been a lot of clubs courting him but we were able to get the deal done through the persistence of Robbie (Cowling) and Tony (Humes), once we knew Sammie (Szmodics) was moving on.

“Credit to them really, because it’s a great coup for the club.”

Colchester snapped up Brown on the same day that they clinched the signing of Paris Cowan-Hall, also on a two-year deal.

The 28-year-old former Millwall and Plymouth Argyle attacker has linked up with the U’s, after being released by Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season.

“Paris has been there and done it and he’s been promoted before,” said McGreal.

“He tends to hit double figures from wide areas which we do need and extra goals from those areas.

“Paris brings that experience and determination.

“Wycombe have always had a small squad and they’ve had to keep themselves fit – looking at Paris, he’s a super-fit boy.

“We’re over the moon and we think they’ll really improve the squad.”

Brown and Cowan-Hall could both feature tonight when Colchester play their second pre-season friendly of the summer.

The U’s travel to play National League South outfit Dulwich Hamlet, kick-off 7.30pm.
