HARWICH and Parkeston boss Kieron Shelley believes he has struck gold by bringing Kevin Coyle and Tyler Rose to the Royal Oak.

The former is well-known in Tendring football and is the record goalscorer at FC Clacton.

He played under Shelley during the pair's time together at the Rush Green Bowl.

Striker Rose, meanwhile, has joined on loan from Needham Market.

Both played starring roles as the depleted Shrimpers pulled off a 3-1 victory at Frenford on Saturday.

Coyle scored twice and Shelley has high hopes for both, as his club continue to impress in their first season back in the Thurlow Nunn League.

“Tyler was fantastic," said the Harwich boss.

“He’s a really nice lad who’s very enthusiastic and dedicated.

"He wants to prove himself at this level and he’s full of running and energy.

“He’s as fit as a fiddle and chomping at the bit, which is why we decided to throw him straight in.

“Likewise Kevin, who has now officially joined us from Coggeshall Town and was absolutely superb on Saturday.

“It was his work off the ball that really impressed me.

“He scored a couple and I know as well as anyone what he’s capable of in front of goal.

“But it was that work-rate and willingness to graft that caught my eye.

“Frenford couldn’t live with him and he’s going to be an excellent addition."

Harwich had a host of first-team regulars missing last weekend and also arrived late due to heavy traffic on the outskirts of London.

“It was an absolute nightmare," added Shelley.

“We had eight players missing for one reason or another and they weren’t just squad players.

“They were regular first-teamers who may well have been in the side.

“We also arrived late because of traffic problems so to do as well as we did was very impressive.

“The boys dug deep and it was an excellent result.

“We knew it was a very small, narrow pitch over there so had a game-plan to play a certain way, being hard to break down and then hitting them on the break.

"In addition to Tyler and Kevin, Luke Barnard also played well and so did Harvey Cowler.

"It was like the old Harvey, talking and dominating the back line.

“Shaun Kioussis also deserves a special mention.

“He’s been in and out of the side but never complained once.

“He had a great game and dominated the centre of the park."

Harwich were due to visit Felixstowe and Walton United Reserves on Tuesday night in the First Division Knockout Cup.

The Shrimpers then have a division one south date at home to high-flying Halstead Town on Saturday.

“We’re all looking forward to the weekend," added Shelley.

“They’re a team that are always there or thereabouts and it’ll be a real test for our boys.

"It’ll definitely be a tight game.

“Hopefully we’ll have some players available again but the main thing is to be tough and hard to beat again, as we were last Saturday.

“The boys have raised their game in matches against higher-placed sides this season and hopefully that will be the case again on Saturday.

“I want consistency, though, and it’s just as important to be up for the lower-profile games as it is the big ones."
