COLCHESTER'S Tom Oliver will head into this weekend's final round of the Dickies British Supersport Championship in confident mood after two sensational top-ten finishes, in Holland.

The SGR Racing rider finished ninth in the main race at the challenging Cathedral of Speed, having earlier clocked tenth in the championship and 11th place overall in the sprint race in the championship's penultimate round at Assen.

Oliver said: “Assen is an amazing circuit and I feel I got to grips with it quickly.

"There is so much history there it is amazing to get the opportunity to race on that track.

"I’m really pleased with the results as we were starting with zero experience here and we got a consistent double top ten.

"I can’t believe the last round is nearly here, bring on Brands Hatch.”

SGR Racing have visited Assen before a number of years ago with Jay Harris but Oliver has never been to the challenging circuit, so his first job was to find his way round and get the bike dialled in.

They worked hard to achieve this and qualified in a reputable 14th position on the competitive grid.

First up was the short, sharp sprint race, which was its usual chaotic affair.

Oliver got away well and soon settle into his rhythm gradually working his way forward to tenth in championship and 11th place overall.

His pace in race one set the grid for the main feature race, so Oliver was now in 12th place on the grid.

The feature race was a tough one and Oliver was swamped off the line and relegated back to 14th place.

Undeterred, he kept pushing his SGR Racing Yamaha to its limits and battling hard he progressed to tenth and then back to 11th, before finally into the top ten with a ninth-place finish.

SGR Racing team owner Stephen Kinghorn said: “I’m over the moon with Tom and the team’s performance.

"We have been here quite a while ago and Tom didn’t know what corner was where.

"We pulled together to get another double top ten. In race two Tom was fourth fastest overall, which is a great step forward.

"Last round is nearly here – time has just flown by.

"I need to say a massive thank you to all our sponsors and supporters; they have made a world of difference this year.

"I hope they stay with us for 2019 as we have some major plans! Can’t wait for Brands Hatch.”

The final round of the championship takes place at Brands Hatch, this weekend.
