CRAIG Fagan will select Colin Calderwood as his assistant manager if he is named the next Shrimpers boss.
Fagan is still in the running to replace Sol Campbell who left Roots Hall at the end of June.
And Echosport understands he would work alongside Calderwood if he is appointed.
The 55-year-old has managed Northampton Town, Nottingham Forest, Hibernian and Cambridge United and has also been assistant manager at Newcastle United, Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.
Calderwood also made 772 appearances in his own career and also played 36 times for Scotland.
