Chelmsford City’s match against Whitehawk in the National League South was postponed on Saturday because of a frozen pitch.

The Clarets’ Melbourne Stadium pitch did not have enough time to thaw ahead of kick-off.

The club said in a statement on its website: “Despite the offers of numerous City supporters to help clear the pitch, their efforts would not have improved the likelihood of the pitch becoming playable.

“Alongside this, Chelmsford City Football Club must ensure the safety of spectators at the Melbourne Community Stadium. Various areas of the Stadium have suffered from the severe weather and therefore have been deemed dangerous.”

Every other match in the division was also postponed at the weekend.

A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
