CHELMSFORD Chieftains enjoyed another weekend of back-to-back victories in the National Ice Hockey League South 2 with victories over Guildford Phoenix and Haringey Huskies.

The Chieftains visited Guildford, just below them in the standings on Saturday, and were emphatic winners.

They ran out 7-2 winners, despite conceding the first goal of the game after just 90 seconds on the ice.

James Ayling levelled up scores before Cameron Bartlett put the away side ahead at the end of the first period.

The second period was all about Chelmsford. Ross Brears, Ayling and Bartlett scored to put Chelmsford firmly in the driving seat.

Although Phoenix got a goal back, Chelmsford were to have the last laugh and scored the final two goals of an entertaining contest.

Grant Bartlett and Brears scored goals to round off a good start to the weekend.

Twenty four hours later the Chieftains were back on the ice against Haringey.

It took almost nine minutes for the breakthrough to come but it was that man Ayling that scored again.

Anthony Leone doubled the lead before the Huskies got on the scoreboard.

Darren Brown made it 3-1 at the end of the first period, with the second again taking a little while to burst into life.

Brears, Grant Bartlett and Elliot Dervish gave the Chieftains a five goal cushion heading into the final phase.

And Mike Oravec, Brears, Brown, Bartlett and Leone all got on the scoresheet to complete an 11-1 rout.

The wins lift Chieftains into fourth in the standings, although they remain 14 points behind leaders Oxford City Stars, albeit having played four fewer matches.

They host the Lee Valley Lions on Sunday, with face-off at 6.30pm.
