CHELMSFORD stood strong throughout the game although Norwich's undoubted quality shone through.

Two first half goals, including a penalty from Joshua Murphy, gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time. After the break Sam Long halved the deficit via the penalty spot.

On 69 minutes Carlton Morris slotted home with Joshua Murphy doubling his tally for the afternoon nine minutes from time. Substitute Harry Barker added the fifth in the Clarets' 75th anniversary match.

City manager Dean Holdsworth took many positives from the match despite the defeat.

He said: “I think in the first half we were excellent. I’m disappointed with some of the goals we conceded in the second half. They’re Premiership status and they were a sharp, young side. I know that they've got five or so England U20s or U21s.

"It was a very good test for us. You learn a lot from these defeats."

Chelmsford's players prompted praise from boss Holdsworth after showing they can hold their own at times against skilful opposition.

"I think there were a couple of our players that did the world of good for themselves today," he said.

"I think we can still get better and fitter. It's a brand new team and we've only had four-and-a-half weeks together and it's not enough.

"There are some good points from the game and I learnt a lot about the ability and fitness of some of our players."
