The Mayor has written a message of thanks to residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

Maldon Town Mayor, Flo Shaughnessy, has written the message to say thank you to key workers.

In the message she said : "This is to say thank you.

"The coronavirus has dramatically changed our lives at the moment and we all owe a huge debt of gratitude to those key workers in our community who are selflessly ensuring that vital services are maintained.

"The professions, trades, police, food retail, delivery personnel and charities to mention but a few, all have our admiration and eternal gratitude.

"These people do, of course include the magnificent staff within the NHS, an institution which we must treasure and protect, who are currently working at great risk to themselves.

"In this crisis we can clearly see the importance of our NHS and how vital it is for it to be fully funded, fully staffed, properly equipped and remain free at the point of entry for everyone.

"We must continue to heed the medical and scientific advice for the sake of NHS staff and in order not to endanger the health of others, or indeed ourselves.

Flo continued to thank the people of Maldon and surrounding areas for adhering to social distancing measures.

She also thanked those who are volunteering with Maldon District Council and Maldon District CVS to help those in the community who are vulnerable or housebound.

She finished by saying: "To all the volunteers, key workers and those of you who are “doing your bit” I, along with the Deputy Mayor and Town Councillors say THANK YOU!"
