FILM buffs will be able to get back to the flicks in Colchester from the middle of next month.

Odeon have confirmed they will reopen their cinema in Head Street from July 13 after the Government gave them the green light following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions.

The Colchester multiplex is included in the third batch of cinemas Odeon will be reopening.

A mix of new releases and modern classics like Batman movie The Dark Knight, La La Land and Dunkirk will be available to watch as the industry responds to the delays in filming.

Colchester manager Emma Campbell said: "We are delighted to announce this Odeon will reopen its doors from July 13, and you can book tickets now.

"We have made lots of changes to create a new safer cinema experience, and we look forward to welcoming customers back."

A variety of new safety measures have been put in place to limit the spread of coronavirus and ensure safe social distancing.

Seat sales will be limited and empty seats will be maintained between different groups.

Show times are also being staggered to limit queues, with people asked to pre-book their seats in advance to avoid waiting.

Some pre-packaged food will still be available but customers will be unable to use cash.

Bosses have confirmed that staff have been trained in health and safety measures and will wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Cleaning will also be stepped up.

The Curzon cinema in Queen Street, Colchester, is aiming to be open on July 31.

The firm has confirmed they will open their Cantebury venue on July 17 and their Mayfair site a week later.

A spokesman said special offers and listings will be available soon.

He said: "We will then be reopening most if not all of our other venues from July 31."
