A WOMAN was rushed to hospital after being burned.

Police, fire crews and paramedics all rushed to Speedwell Road, Colchester, on Wednesday morning and blocked off the road.

Neighbours reported hearing screaming coming from a woman at one of the houses.

Part of the road was shut for several hours while the emergency services were on the scene.

The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance was also on the scene but not required.

Now the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust has confirmed a woman was taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: "We were called to Speedwell Road in Colchester at around 7.45am today following reports that a female patient had suffered burns.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer, ambulance and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. Crews treated one patient at the scene before transporting her by road to Broomfield Hospital for further assessment and care."

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they also attended and assisted paramedics.

Police said they believe a woman was in a mental health crisis.

A spokesman said: "We were called at around 8am today, Wednesday June 17, concerning the welfare of a woman inside a property in Speedwell Road, Colchester.

"We received information that the woman, who we believe was in mental health crisis, had received burn injuries.

"She has been taken to hospital for her injuries and enquiries are ongoing.

One neighbour said: “It looks incredibly serious.

“We could hear someone screaming for a few doors down.

“Other people have said it started at 8am.

“My wife was woken up by all the shouting and the emergency services.”
