THIS collection of vintage images show work being carried out to create the Colchester bypass on the A12 in the 1980s.
But the history of the A12 itself stretches back much further.
Running from London to the Suffolk, through Essex it was formed in 1922 as part of the Great Britain road numbering scheme.
The route from London to Essex was vital long before that, going back to before Roman times when a paved road was put in.
