A TALENTED wordsmith whose passion for poetry helped her document her journey from childhood has now released the finished, chart-topping product.

Jemimah Ngu, 18, is an A-Level student from Colchester, who has dedicated the past eight years of her life to writing anthology, A Passage of Time.

The literacy labour of love includes 50 poems and documents Jemimah’s experiences from a young eight-year-old to an accomplished poet.

The extensive body of work has now been published by PublishNation and has soared to the top of Amazon’s poetry charts.

But before triumphing with the hefty compilation, the rhyming couplet connoisseur first tasted success after winning a school competition in America.

Having been born in the UK, Jemimah spent seven years in New Jersey.

“It was the librarian at my old elementary school in New Jersey who first made me aware of poetry,” said Jemimah.

“She told my class about a poetry contest where students would have to write a poem about the season - it was winter.

“I wrote Snowflakes and a few months later found that my poem had won and would be included in the collection.

“After that I kept writing and I have been loving poetry ever since.”

In August 2018, Jemimah and her family moved to Colchester and Jemimah started at Colchester Sixth Form College.

Her persistent urge to create continued, eventually culminating in A Passage Of Time.

Within the eight year documentation, readers can also see the writer’s gradual lexical and technical maturity.

But Jemimah believes the impressive body of work wouldn’t have been possible if it were not for her parents’ encouragement.

“I always kept my poems written in a notebook, but my parents advised that I type them up in case I ever lost the book,” she said.

“I eventually typed them up and my parents said if I could get about 50 poems ready, they would do their part in having them published.

“A Passage of Time is a collection of poetry that gives readers an insight into my mind from the age of eight until 16.”
