A student from a Billericay school has tested positive for coronavirus.

Mayflower High School, on Stock Road, Billericay, have confirmed a pupil has tested positive for covid-19.

As of today, partial closures will be in place.

In a letter sent to parents yesterday, headteacher Lee Brumby, said: "Mayflower High School can confirm that one of our students has tested positive for coronavirus (covid-19).

"We know that this will be worrying news, but want to reassure parents that we are working with Public Health England to take necessary action to ensure the welfare of our pupils, staff and their families.

"We have sought advice from Public Health England and they have advised that there is no need for us to take action, so the school will continue to remain open.

"We will continue to be vigilant with cleanliness and in ensuring we are aware of the latest expert advice.

"I will be in touch immediately if the situation changes and there is further information I need to share."

In an update today, a spokesperson for Mayflower High School said: “Mayflower High School can confirm that as of Wednesday March 18 we have implemented a partial closure.

“We have made the decision to request that parents keep Years 7 to 10 and Year 12 at home.  Students in Years 11 and 13 have been requested to come in as normal."

“We have made this decision due to rising numbers of staff adhering to Government and Public Health England advice to self-isolate.

“This decision has not been taken lightly and we would like to reassure parents and carers that we continue to put the wellbeing of our pupils at the forefront.

“We have put plans in place to ensure all of our pupils continue to receive education whether that be at home, virtually or in the classroom.

“We will update parents and carers on any developments.”
