A CONCERNED councillor has urged anyone with information to call police after a knifeman broke into a house during a terrifying daytime raid.

Police have launched an investigation after the man broke into the property in Brooklands, Colchester, at 9.30am on Monday.

A man entered a house and threatened the victim - who was a man in his 20s - with the blade.

He then made off with a computer game console, games, a mobile phone and a bag,.

The knifeman also managed to grab a three-figure sum of cash.

Simon Crow (Con) represents Castle ward on Colchester Council where the raid took place.

He urged anyone with any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to contact police as soon as possible.

“It’s very worrying that this incident took place in broad daylight,” Mr Crow said.

“It must have been extremely frightening for the victim and I would urge neighbours and anyone else who was in the area at the time to report anything suspicious they may have seen to the police.”

Mr Crow urged people in the neighbourhood to be on their guard in the next few days, even if they were stuck at home.

He added: “I’d also suggest that we are all extra vigilant with our home security over the next few days, whether we are actually at home or not.”

Police have released a description of the suspect.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “He was described as black, also in his mid-20s, and wearing a dark grey hooded top and a black puffer-style jacket.
