FEMALE football stars have scored a financial boost thanks to a generous house building company.

Stanway Rovers Girls YFC has received £1,000 from regional housebuilder, Persimmon Homes Suffolk, after winning its community champions award.

Each month two donations of £1,000 are up for grabs from the business’s national fund, which local groups and charities are encouraged to bid for.

Over the past three years, the football club has grown dramatically, having originally started with just two coaches and a handful of budding sportswomen.

Following a remarkable transformation, the club now boasts several full teams, from u8s to u15s, and it also hosts a weekly Sunday morning women’s training session.

Ian Hamilton, director in charge at Persimmon Homes Suffolk, said: “The value of team sports opportunities for girls and women is often overlooked so we are pleased to support this growing community club.

“Choosing our monthly winners is always a difficult task but we encourage any good causes from across Suffolk to apply.”
