A MOTORIST caught drink driving after boozing at a Christmas party has vowed never to get behind the wheel again.
Stephen Wells had enjoyed four beers at a festive bash on Christmas Eve before deciding to get into his Citroen C3.
He travelled to Hythe Tesco to go shopping but was involved in a minor shunt in the car park.
While discussing what happened, the other motorist smelt alcohol and called the police.
Officers attended and found the 59-year-old had 65mcgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Wells, of Grange Farm Park, Colchester, admitted drink driving during a Colchester Magistrates' Court hearing.
Representing himself he apologised and said the experience had made him quit driving for good.
"I can't apologise enough," he said.
"It was an extremely stupid mistake I made and I honestly don't know why I did it.
"I will never drive a car again."
The warehouse operative was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £320.
He must also pay £105 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
