POLICE want to speak to people who might have seen a burglary suspect sprinting past them while they were on the school run.

A man broke into a house in The Avenue, Wivenhoe, just before 3.30pm on Tuesday.

He was disturbed by one of the residents and ran off.

The man sprinted into De Vere Lane and was last seen heading towards the King George V Playing Field.

He was described as white, aged in his early 20s, about 6ft tall and of slim build and wore a dark green hooded jacket and dark trousers.

A spokesman for Essex Police said the area was busy with people and wanted to speak to anyone who saw him.

"We carried out a search of the area and are continuing to speak to residents and check CCTV footage," he said.

"There were a lot of people in the area at the time and we are asking them to please contact us if they saw a man matching the description given running down the street.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Colchester CID on 101 quoting incident 641 of yesterday's date."
