A FOOTBALL-MAD family showed the magic of the FA Cup is alive and well after achieving their ambition of attending every round of the famous competition.

Dan Humphries, 37, took his sons Liam, eight, and George, six, to watch Brantham Athletic’s home game against Eastbourne Borough in September because there was a chance to have their picture taken with the trophy.

And since then they have attended a match in every round culminating in a second trip to Wembley to see Manchester City’s record-breaking 6-0 win over Watford after they were gifted tickets by Emirates - the cup’s main sponsor.

The family, who live in Marks Tey. headed to the home of football extra early on Saturday to soak up the atmosphere.

Dan said: “I was more excited than the boys initially - we were there three hours before kick-off but time flew by.

“We got to look out over Wembley Way, go to the Bobby Moore statue and see the brass band playing.

“George decided he needed the toilet 15 minutes before kick-off so we had a mad dash back to our seats to see the pre-match fireworks and it was a real sense of occasion.”

The adventure made it into the official programme and has made headlines across the country - including cheeky George criticising the quality of the Wembley burgers on national radio.

Liam has also now pledged his allegiance to Pep Guardiola’s all conquering City side after watching them secure an historic domestic treble in person.

The boys have been asked to talk about their experiences at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School in Colchester where they attend while Dan has been congratulated by wellwishers.

“Everyone keeps saying well done to me. It is as if I had won the cup myself,” he added.

Dan is now hoping to secure tickets to next year’s European Championships which will be held across the continent for the first time.

Long-term he wants to continue ground hopping with his children and try to attend all 92 league stadiums at least once.

He added: “That would involve a lot more miles but we have made such good memories and have great pictures - a collage with us at 92 different grounds would be unbelievable to have.”
