A HOUSE fire in Hutton, Brentwood, left a kitchen completely destroyed after a kettle caught fire.
Fire crews rushed to the scene after being alerted of smoke by a passerby on Tuesday, February 12, around 4pm, and immediately entered the property wearing breathing apparatus, and searched to see if anyone was inside.
Fortunately, the property at Mount Avenue, was empty and crews were able to quickly locate the source of the kitchen fire, which is thought to have started after the switch on a kettle was accidentally turned on and became stuck, causing the element to overheat and catch fire.
Crews worked to extinguished the fire by 5pm, then cleared the house of smoke, and isolated both the electricity and gas to ensure the scene was safe.
