THIS summer, Chelmsford City Council is increasing its enforcement patrols to deal with littering and other environmental offences.
When the weather is warm and the days are long, more people are out and about. This makes public spaces more lively, but also leads to more mess.
From June to September, the council is carrying out more patrols than usual, including early morning and late evening patrols.
Anyone witnessed littering, dog fouling or flyposting could be given a Fixed Penalty Notice for up to £80.
Susan Sullivan, councillor for Safer Communities, said, “We want everyone to be able to enjoy Chelmsford and the surrounding area this summer. Dog fouling and littering make public places less pleasant, particularly in hot weather, and as well as working to keep the streets clean we are also dealing with the inconsiderate behaviour at the root of these issues.
“If people drop litter, or don’t clean up after their dog, the chances of them being caught will increase this summer and they could receive a fine. It’s much easier to be considerate by using bins and dog bags.”
