An infant and nursery school has won £250 of prizes after taking part in a community art trail.

Throughout October and November, Meadows Shopping Centre, Chelmsford hosted their very own Community Art Trail created by budding artists from local schools and nurseries across the area.

Talented pupils worked hard to create eye catching works of art, which were then displayed around key entrances of the shopping centre.

Pupils were asked to create their own vision of the perfect meadow using eco-friendly materials to be displayed throughout the centre for shoppers to admire.

The works of art submitted ranged from paintings, collages, sculptures and detailed drawings all of which were extremely imaginative.

Shoppers were invited into the centre to view the eye catching pieces of art and vote for their favourite to be in with the chance of winning £250 worth of prizes.

From the total of 1,419 votes, the winning school is Mildmay Infant and Nursery School with an outstanding 551 votes across the campaign.

Other schools involved include; Danbury Park, Seymour House, Bishops and Westlands, and collectively received 868 votes.

Vicki Foley, teacher at Milmay Infant and Nursery School, commented: ‘We are absolutely delighted with the result of the community art trail and are extremely thankful for all of our votes.

"The children worked really hard to create the most imaginative pieces of art, so really deserve this prize.

"We have chosen to spend the prize money in The Works and Wilkos."

Sue Patel, The Meadows Shopping Centre Manager, commented: ‘It has been a pleasure see the pieces of art displayed in the centre over the last month.

"I’m delighted for Mildmay Infant and Nursery School on winning the competition and hope they enjoy their prizes.

"Thank you to all the schools and nurseries who have taken part in the Community Art Trail, we’ve been really impressed with the quality of entries and well done to all the pupils who created the stunning pieces of artwork.’

Mildmay Infant and Nursery School will be using their prize money to buy equipment to make large canvases to create a colourful display in the school based on the four seasons.
