YOUNGSTERS across Essex are being urged to take part in Dance for Life.

The British Red Cross is inviting schools, dance and youth groups to get involved in the event - one of the biggest youth dance events in south-east England.

Dance for Life is dedicated to introducing pupils to dance as a medium to overcome cultural, social and physical barriers.

It is open to everyone 18 and under regardless of their ability and dancers are invited to create a performance centred on the humanitarian work of the charity - reflecting any aspect they desire.

Yvonne Jackson, Dance for Life organiser based in Chelmsford, said: “The British Red Cross is committed to exploring what humanitarian values mean in today’s world and through Dance for Life we are able to actively engage children and teenagers in this process.

“Since 2006, more than 5,000 young people have joined us in this exciting event and raised £64,000 for the Red Cross.

“Registration is now open for 2009, with two heats and a final being held in Essex. This year is set to be the best yet with a total of 47 events nationwide.”
