THE Civic and Cramphorn Theatres in Chelmsford have released details of what’s on offer in their spring programme.

Drama is well featured with no less than nine large and small scale productions in both theatres as well as a selection from the amateur groups, Starting a week’s run on January 26 to the 31 at the Civic is Don’t Look Now - Daphne Du Maurier’s classic thriller. Starring Peter Amory of Emmerdale, actress Shirley-Anne Field and Nicola Bryant of Dr Who, it is a stage adaptation of the 1973 film which starred Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland.

Also at the Civic is Billy Liar which will run from February 17 to 21 starring Helen Fraser who was Barbara in the original film.

There is a one night production of The Pickwick Papers on March 18 and for two nights March 26 and 27 Humble Boy comes to the Civic which is an award winning comedy with a delightful sting in the tail.

The 25th anniversary production of ‘Allo ‘Allo will be on stage at the Civic from April 20 to 25. The stage version of the much loved TV classic comes to Chelmsford with a star-studded cast including Vicki Michelle and Jeffrey Holland.

Turning to music three all time greats will be exercising their vocal chords at the Civic. Barbara Dickson on February 8, Joe Brown on April 1 and Elkie Brooks on June 27.

An evening with Gerry and the Pacemakers - one of the greatest 60s icons - is something not tobe misse on Friday April 17 at the Civic.

Comedy and stand-up is represented in the form of Richard Digance who will be at the Civic on January 21, John Shuttleworth in The Minor Tour on February 5 and Russell Kane will be at the Cramphorn on Sunday March 15.

There are two helpings of Jongleurs on the Road - March 19 and May 7.

If ‘an evening with’ is more to your taste then the line-up this season features footballing great Jimmy Greaves on February 4, Jonathan Miller on February 11, Melvyn Bragg on March 2, Benjamin Zephaniah on April 3 and explorer Benedict Allen on May 5 and another footballer Billy Bonds - who is joined by two of his former West Ham team mates - will take to the stage on May 6.

Children are catered for with The Tiger Who Came to Tea at the Civic from Thursday March 5 to Saturday March 7, Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late at the Cramphorn on Thursday January 22 and Potted Pirates also at the Cramphorn on Saturday February 21 and Sunday February 22.

Ballet Central return to the Civic on April 8 with an exciting new programme.
