Van destroyed in Rettendon village blaze, fire crews confirm

Reports of a fire late at night led to an emergency response in a quiet Essex village.

Firefighters were called to Warren Road, Rettendon, at around 10.30pm on Friday, May 29, following reports of a van fire.

On arrival, crews found the vehicle well alight. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and make the area safe.

The van was destroyed in the incident and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to Warren Road, Rettendon, at 10.30pm on Friday 29 May following reports of a van fire.

“On arrival, crews reported a van well alight.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the scene safe.

“The van was destroyed in the fire.”

Witness Danielle Belton said: "We were in a taxi driving down Warren Road, as we came around a corner this van was just completely alight.

"We kept well back as it was totally torched and we were worried it could explode.

"There was no one around so we called the fire brigade and the police, S Type Security who take care of the area were also at the scene really quickly."

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
