A spell of wet weather could be on its way to Essex after a stretch of high temperatures.
The Met Office has predicted rain and cooler conditions for parts of the UK, including Essex, in its long-range forecast covering Sunday, May 31 to Tuesday, June 9.
According to the weather forecasters, a band of patchy rain is expected to move in late on Sunday, bringing heavy and persistent downpours.
Unsettled showers are also expected throughout Sunday, the Met Office forecast states.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "A more changeable period than we have seen of late, as Atlantic weather systems move in from the west to bring a mixture of drier spells and some showers, or longer spells of rain at times.
"The rain will likely be heaviest in parts of the west and northwest, with the best of the drier conditions more likely towards the south and east."
While Essex is expected to remain drier than other regions, there is still a 40 per cent chance of showers in areas including Southend, Chelmsford, and Colchester.
Sunday’s temperatures are still expected to be high, around 22C, but overcast skies and rain are expected to make it feel cooler.
