A road in an Essex village was closed following an emergency incident earlier today.

Bridge Road in Moreton was shut in both directions between Moreton Bridge and Church Road after fire crews were called to the scene near the bridge over Cripsey Brook.

A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Firefighters were called to Bridge Road, Moreton, near Ongar, at 12.52pm this afternoon.

"On arrival, crews reported grass and trees alight after a power line had come down.

"A safety cordon was set up and a road closure was put in place as a precaution.

"UK Power Networks attended the scene and isolated the power supply.

"The incident was later handed over to UK Power Networks before crews left the scene.”

A diversion was put in place via Fyfield or Tyler’s Green while emergency services dealt with the incident.

According to AA Traffic Maps, the road remains closed.

It is not yet clear when the road will fully reopen.
