A popular seaside treat is now available at a throwback price in Southend.

The Ice Cream Club, on Eastern Esplanade, is offering a 99 ice cream for just 99p, a move designed to give visitors a slice of nostalgia.

Philip Miller, chairman of the Stockvale Group, which owns Adventure Island and Sealife Adventure as well as the parlour, said: "We've made our ice cream, our 99's, for 99p.

"Cause we know people are struggling out there and this gives them a little bit of fun, a little bit of a laugh, and it's affordable especially if you've got a few children."

The Ice Cream Club is located opposite Sealife Adventure and next to The Britannia Restaurant.

Visitors with an Adventure Island or Sealife Adventure annual pass can enjoy the 99 -Β a Mr Whippy-style soft serve cone with a Cadbury Flake - at even cheaper, for just 79p.

This price is a stark contrast to the UK average of Β£3.50 to Β£4.50 for a 99.

The parlour uses high-quality ice cream mix imported from Jersey and claims theirs is the "best on the seafront".

The Ice Cream Club opened in 2024 in the former Bailey's Fry Inn.

It serves seaside classics such as scoops of ice cream and doughnuts as well as pancakes, waffles and "ice cream nachos".

The offer comes amid a scorching half-term as Essex is in its fifth day of a heatwave, with temperatures forecast to hit a record-breaking 36C today in the UK.
