London Stansted is preparing for a busy Easter getaway.

The airport expects to welcome around 1.5 million travellers during the school holiday period, with up to 760,000 departing and 740,000 arriving between March 28 and April 12.

Jonathan Fowler, chief operating officer, said: "Easter is always a very busy time for all the teams working at London Stansted, and we're pleased to be welcoming so many passengers as they head off on their holidays.

"Our teams will be working hard to make sure everyone gets a smooth start to their trip, especially with our new, expanded security hall and next-generation scanners now in use."

Good Friday is expected to be the busiest day for departures, contributing to more than 400,000 passengers passing through the airport over the long weekend.

Popular destinations include holiday favourites such as Spain, Italy, and Portugal, as well as city breaks to Rome, Barcelona, Dublin, and Budapest.

This Easter marks the first with the airport’s newly expanded security hall fully operational, featuring next-generation scanners that allow passengers to leave liquids and large electronics inside their bags.

Although construction is ongoing in some areas, recent upgrades include a new domestic arrivals building, a refurbished Satellite Two gate area, and improvements to the baggage system.

A new lounge, the Essence Lounge, has also opened in Satellite One, replacing the former Escape Lounge that closed in February.

Mr Fowler said improvements would continue throughout the terminal.

He said: "Passengers will still see some hoardings around the terminal as we continue our transformation programme, but these improvements are all part of our vision to create a more modern, spacious, and efficient airport that makes every step of travel easier and more comfortable, while at the same time offering our passengers even more choice and more possibilities when using London Stansted."
