An independent used car dealership in rural Essex has gone into liquidation with liabilities topping £2.3 million.
The Essex Car Group Limited, based on Dunmow Road in Leaden Roding, shuttered its business after around nine years of operation, entering into a creditors’ voluntary liquidation.
Documents lodged at Companies House and published in The London Gazette reveal the official winding up of the company began on 24 February 2026.
Gary Thompson, an insolvency practitioner at Quantuma Advisory Limited in Basildon, has been appointed as liquidator to manage the business' closure.
He will also be tasked with dealing with creditors.
Recent accounts for the year ending June 30, 2024, indicate the dealership maintained a stock exceeding £1.5 million.
The records also showed net assets of £269,008.
However, debts to be paid within one year amounted to over £2.3 million.

The Essex Car Group Limited typically employed approximately four staff members throughout the referenced period.
Specialising in prestige and performance cars such as Porsche, Jaguar, BMW and Bentley models, the business promoted prestige car sales in Leaden Roding via its online outlets.
However, its website now seems to be offline and marked as permanently closed in search listings.
The liquidator will now assess the company's situation, liquidate any remaining assets and reach out to creditors owed money.
It is still unclear how many jobs will be affected due to the closure and what measures will be put in place for customers with pending orders, financial obligations or warranty issues.
The downfall of The Essex Car Group is reflective of the challenging times currently being faced by the UK's used car sector.
