A RENOWNED producer and author has written a new book covering the smallest town in Essex and its key features.

David Cleveland has written Manningtree and Around, which covers the town as well as the surrounding villages of Lawford and Mistley.

The book delves into Manningtree’s wide range of shops, businesses and restaurant as well as its entertainment space and recreational facilities such as sailing and boating.

David said: “There is always a lot going on and events and happenings are mentioned in the book, along with short accounts of some of the businesses and people working in Manningtree.

“The book is dotted with fragments of history to show how the town has developed over the years within its 51 and a half acres, though before 1981 it was even smaller.

“Manningtree and Around also looks at the neighbouring villages of Mistley and Lawford in a similar way, along with bits of history, industry, and the continuing development in this corner of Essex.”

The book also contains an introduction to the area within its 132 pages dotted with 247 colour and 48 black and white illustrations.

Manningtree and Around is available only from NaviStitch in Manningtree High Street and Lawford Service Station for £13.
