SEALIFE Adventure has welcomed a new baby penguin into the fold.
The baby Humboldt penguin was born in April and is growing in size every day.
Visitors may be able to catch a glimpse of the little one as he or she – staff have yet to determine which – pokes their head out of their nest box.
“It is healthy, happy and in a stable condition,” a spokesman for the Southend attraction said.

“We are extremely grateful for this as Humboldt penguins are becoming more and more extinct, so to say we are doing our bit to help the conservation of Humboldt penguins is an honour.
“At this time we are unsure of the sex of our penguin chick. This is because it is difficult to tell the difference between male and female penguins due to the similarities of their biological appearance.
“Humboldt penguins are Oviparous animals, and this means that they lay eggs - so, it is challenging to see the difference in sex without doing a blood test to examine their DNA!”
