Thousands are expected to celebrate the upcoming Platinum jubilee next week, as Brits are set for hundreds of events, street parties, and other activities.

In and around Colchester, it is no different, with plenty planned to choose from to get involved with.

There will be a programme of civic events taking place in Castle Park on Thursday 2nd June, including a community picnic, royal gun salute, and lighting of the beacon.

Here is a list of some of the events that will be taking place in and around the city.

  • Fingringhoe Platinum Jubilee Fete – Fingringhoe – June 2 – 11am to 4pm
  • Crown Trail – Brightlingsea Museum, Station Road, Brightlingsea – June 2 to June 5 – 10.30am to 5pm
  • Lion Walk Patriotic Party – Lion Walk, Colchester – June 3 – Between 12pm and 4pm
  • The Bombshells Jubilee Performance – Culver Square, Colchester – June 3 - Performances at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
  • Special tour of Colchester – Hollytrees Museum, Colchester – June 3 – 2pm to 4pm
  • Jubilee weekend steam and diesel trains - Chappel And Wakes Colne Station – June 4 to June 5 – 10am to 5pm
  • Festival of Fun - Colchester Sports Park, Colchester – June 4 to June 5 – 8am to 8pm
  • Colchester medieval fair and oyster market – Castle Park, Colchester – June 4 to June 5
  • The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Street Party – Mercury Theatre, Colchester – June 5 – 12pm to 8pm
