Jools Holland and an Ibiza-inspired House and Garage orchestra are likely to be performing in the middle of Essex over the summer.

A large section of Central Park will be set over to three concerts on July 22, 23 and 24 – with music set to be played until as late as 11.30pm.

The House & Garage Orchestra with guest singers including Sabrina Washington from Mis-Teeq and Kele Le Roc will be performing on Friday 22nd July from 5pm till 10.30pm.

Ska band the The Dualers are back in Chelmsford alongside a line up of special guests on Saturday July 23 from 1.30pm to 11.30pm.

Former Squeeze frontman and presenter of the legendary Later with Jools Holland will be in Chelmsford on Sunday between 5pm and 10.30pm.

An application has also been submitted for the sale of alcohol on Monday, Friday and Sunday between midday and 10.30pm, on Saturday between midday and 11.30pm as well as the playing of live music between midday and 22.30pm on Monday, Friday and Sunday and on Saturday between midday and 11.30pm.

The concerts will be staged on the heels of Creamfields and its all-new 50,000 capacity two-day camping festival at Hylands Park on Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4 of the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

The concerts represent a welcome return of outdoor events for the council that has had its income badly affected by Covid.

The council’s income has partially recovered, but inflation continues to push up costs hugely.

Income is not back to 2019-20 levels and was knocked back by the Omicron variant. It is still forecast that some income will never fully recover, especially in the area of car parks.

Energy is predicted to cost the council an extra £1.1m in 2022/3.

Lib Dem councillor Graham Pooley, who represents Chelmsford Moulsham and Central said: “It’s a service he council is pleased to provide and can be worthwhile financially but it is the opportunity for the public that we are pleased about.”
