COLCHESTER United have officially launched this year’s Colchester Poppy Appeal.

Colchester’s mayor Robert Davidson donated the first poppy of this year’s appeal launch prior to the U’s home clash with Scunthorpe United at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Mr Davidson was joined at the launch by Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling, Garrison Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ed Rankin, High Steward Sir Bob Russell and Colchester MP Will Quince.

It will begin the two week appeal by the Royal British Legion to raise funds for former and present servicemen and women and their families in times of need.

The appeal ends on Remembrance Sunday on November 14 when there will be a formal ceremony at Colchester war memorial.
