A TRIO of live music venues are set to host an Jools Holland-esque all-day event in aid of a cancer charity launched in a young man’s memory.

Coda, Three Wise Monkeys and the Queen Street Brewhouse, based in Colchester’s town centre, are all taking part in the Loxley’s Corner Live Takeover.

The music extravaganza will boast more than 20 performers, including the likes of Elephant Jane, Ghosts of Men, Tasha Robertson, Polly Haynes and Litter of Kings.

Loxley’s Corner started life as a segment on a radio show which provided a platform for artists in and around the Essex area by introducing their music to the masses.

It has now been adapted for a live format celebrating a variety of genres and gig-goers’ return to music venues following the coronavirus pandemic.

Abbas Lokat, a spokesman for the Loxley’s Corner Live Takeover, hopes the inaugural occasion will turn into a regular event.

He said: “With the world opening up again we wanted to say a big thanks to Loxley for his dedication and commitment to the local music scene.

“We want to showcase the diversity of musical talent that we have here in Colchester by putting on an all-day event across three excellent independent venues.

“Hopefully this can start the beginnings of something that can only get bigger and better over time, get a load of people involved who can have a good time doing it.”

Vitally the ambitious event will also raise money for The Robin Cancer Trust, a germ cell cancer community and charity based in Colchester.

The organisation was founded in 2021 by the Freeman after beloved brother and son Robin Freeman died from a rare form of testicular cancer aged just 24.

Abbas added: “We will be raising money for the Robin Cancer Trust, a local charity doing some really amazing things nationally.

“Charities have been hit really hard during the pandemic and so we will be helping them to raise as much money as we can and awareness.”

The Loxley’s Corner Live Takeover, which is entirely free to attend, will take place on November 6 from 2pm.
