OFFICERS have arrested a man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following an assault in Southminster this weekend.

Essex Police has confirmed a 40-year-old man was arrested this morning on Tuesday, June 22.

The arrest was made in connection with an investigation in to the assault of a 30-year-old man.

Police say the victim was assaulted inside the Queens Head pub on Queen Street at around 9.35pm on Sunday, June 20.

The man suffered numerous injuries with police suspecting he was hit with a glass.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "He sustained four injuries to his head and we believe he had been struck with a glass.

"The suspect left the location in a silver SUV in company with another man.

"We are continuing to appeal for witnesses, so if you saw anything or have any CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage we need you to contact us.

"Please quote the crime reference number 42/118729/21."
