Fire crews descended on a busy Leigh street after a blaze broke out in a shop.

The team from the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service took to Leigh Road yesterday (May 9) around 4.17pm after receiving reports of a shop fire.

When they arrived, the crew reported that the shop was heavily smoke logged but were able to extinguish the blaze by 4.43pm.

It's believed the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, said: “Firefighters were called to a fire in a shop in Leigh Road, Leigh, at 4.17pm yesterday.

“On arrival, crews reported that the shop was heavily smoke logged and extinguished a fire by 4.43pm. 

“The fire was caused accidentally by an electrical fault.”
