The council has teamed up with students to raise awareness of Covid among young people in Watford.

Watford Borough Council briefed Digital Content Production pupils at West Herts College to develop a series of coronavirus messages and materials to form a campaign that would resonate with their peer group and encourage them to follow the rules set by the Government.

The 25 students pulled together 11 ideas including posters, social media post and TikTok videos, five of which the council are taking forward and will be appearing around the town soon.

“It has been a really unsettling time for young people in our town. The interruption to their education and being unable to see friends and socialise has been difficult," said Donna Nolan, managing director at the council.

"We wanted to give young people a chance to give their views and communicate messages to their peers about the importance of following government guidance during this pandemic. We’re really pleased with how this project has developed. Not only has it provided an opportunity for the students to build their portfolio and gain experience outside of college, but they’ve helped us to spread important messages to people their age in a creative and engaging way."

Kathryn Crawley, head of work experience at West Herts College, said: “This was a great project for the students to be involved in. Watford Borough Council pitched a live brief to students focussing on creating digital content for a younger audience, this provided first-hand experience of what it’s like working on and delivering a project to a client’s brief and expectations."
