A Roydon rental property closed following a fatal shooting in July will remain closed after the council secured a court extension for the order.

The property in Water Lane, which was often rented out for music videos and parties, was served a closure order in July by Southend Magistrates’ Court.

The month before, 50-year-old Robert Powell from Grays, was shot to death outside the property in the early hours of the morning following a party.

A group of men drove up to the address and fired several gunshots at a group of people outside the house before driving off, Essex Police said.

Two women in their 20s were also injured in the incident but survived their wounds.

Epping Forest District Council has since returned to court and were granted a further extension of three months up to January 15, 2021, Your Harlow reported.

Councillor Holly Whitbread, Cabinet member for Housing and Community said: “A Closure Order allows us to quickly close premises being used, or likely to be used, to commit nuisance or disorder.

“We acted swiftly to get the order made and it has already been posted on the property. This action should address the concerns of local residents and bring peace to this rural Essex village.

Brentwood and Epping Forest District Commander, Chief Inspector Ant Alcock added: “We understand the impact that visitors to this property have had on the local community and I now hope that this will prevent further disturbance to local residents.”
