THE FAMILY of a young man who died in a tragic road crash have expressed their shock at his death.

Jonathan Gore, known as Jay was walking along the A265 in Broad Oak near Heathfield in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sadly the 22-year-old was hit by a car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He lived in Broad Oak, and his family said: “He was a gentle and kind young man with a generous heart.

“He had a pure love for life, and was supportive and loyal to all of his family and friends.

“His smile, personality and humour filled the lives of everyone he knew with love and happiness.”

Police say they are investigating the circumstances of the crash which happened on the road towards Burwash Common.

A black Ford Fiesta was involved in the incident, and a 21-year-old driver from Etchingham was not hurt in the crash.

Officers want anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV cameras in the area to come forward to help understand what happened.

The force said: “Jonathan Gore, 22, known as Jay, from Broad Oak, was walking along the A265 road between Broad Oak and Burwash in the early hours when he was in collision with a car. He tragically died at the scene.”
